Our Vineyard

This area of the Russian River Valley is also known as the Middle Reach. The vineyard is adjacent to the Bucher’s home and is part of Bucher Farms, an organic dairy started in 1958 by John Bucher’s parents after they emigrated from Switzerland. Today John manages the day-to-day operations of the dairy, along with farming the vineyard for Bucher Farms.

After graduating from UC Davis, John returned to Healdsburg to manage the family dairy farm operation, and in 1997, he diversified into wine grapes. Bucher Vineyard has 36 acres of Pinot Noir grapes and 2 acres of Chardonnay on 15 distinct blocks. The blocks are comprised of several clones as well as various rootstocks. [Visit the Map page for additional block information.] The small, diversified blocks are perfect for artisanal, hand crafted wine production.

Additional plantings followed in 1998, 1999, 2006, 2008, and 2009. Today, Bucher Vineyard Pinot Noir fruit is sold by Bucher Farms to numerous Sonoma County wineries, including Williams Selyem, Siduri Wines, Papapietro Perry, Arista, Holdredge, C. Donatiello Winery, and Thralls Family Cellars. You may have enjoyed a Bucher Vineyard designate Pinot Noir from one or more of these wineries.

"My family strives to produce the best agricultural crops possible. For over 50 years, we have taken tremendous pride in producing quality products. Bucher Farms works closely with our winery partners, from bud break through harvest, to make sure the best fruit possible is delivered for wine production. We are excited to take the same dedication to produce the best wine from Bucher Vineyard. The best Pinot Noir starts in the vineyard, and we look forward to sharing our ‘ground to glass’ journey with you!"
